After joining the New Zealand Police in 1977 and retiring in 1999, Michael continued his training in Computer Forensics and Data Recovery both here in New Zealand and in the United States of America.

In his later years with the New Zealand Police, as a Senior Detective, he investigated a number of Computer and Internet related crimes.  Prior to his involvement with the Christchurch Fraud Unit, Michael was an Analyst in the Criminal Intelligence Section in Christchurch.

Before leaving the Police, Michael became involved in a private capacity, in the examination of Pirated and Counterfeit Software for a Private Investigation Company, contracted to a major software corporation.
